Hi! I'm Rachel McCarthy.
ABOUT ME
I grew up as a missionary kid in Togo, West Africa, and East Asia, where I developed a passion for missionary kids and member care!
In college, I studied Human Services at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, with the dream of serving missionaries through member care. During the summer of 2018, I spent 6 weeks interning with Mission Training International (MTI). My experience there confirmed the importance of equipping missionaries with lessons and tools that help them thrive, not just survive, on the mission field.
I currently serve at MTI as an MK Debriefer. It’s amazing to see how God continues to use my own story growing up overseas to bless the teenagers and kids I get to serve. My goal is to provide a safe space for them to process their stories and unpack how to navigate transitions.
MTI exists to equip missionary families to thrive on the field. We focus on the whole family, knowing that every member of the family, no matter how young, are deeply impacted by transition. Themes we frequently explore with missionaries and their children include home, cultural belonging, identity, and loss & grief.

MY ROLE
Serving as Debriefer and TCK Consultant
My main role at MTI involves debriefing missionary kids in group settings. These kids may be on a home assignment, moving to another country, or returning to live in the US. We use a variety of kinesthetic tools and methods to help them process their experiences and the feelings that come with them. It is an honor to provide the space for missionary families to regularly debrief together.
An additional part of my role includes serving as a consultant for TCK issues as they impact various aspects of MTI’s ministry to the missions world. I love getting the opportunity to contribute TCK perspectives and trends to our training programs and research initiatives. It is also my joy to offer consulting to MK caregivers as they discern how to provide care in their church/sending agency context.
